CBD comes in many forms. One of those forms that have taken Ireland by storm is gummies. These delectable treats offer a discreet and convenient way to consume CBD and enjoy its numerous benefits.
But what exactly are CBD gummies? If you’re new to these chewy delights, this article is for you!
In this comprehensive guide on CBD gummies in Ireland, we’ll highlight the advantages of gummies while discussing their legality, benefits, and more. Join us to learn more about Irish CBD gummies.
CBD gummies are delicious edibles infused with hemp extract. They’re full of hemp’s non-intoxicating cannabinoids, such as CBD (cannabidiol), CBG (cannabigerol), CBN (cannabinol), and more. They’re a popular option among health enthusiasts who want to reap the benefits of cannabis without feeling its psychoactive effects. To make CBD gummies in Ireland, first, the plant’s cannabinoids are extracted. Then, they are mixed with all-natural fruit flavors and gelatin (or a vegan substitute like pectin). The resulting mixture is poured into fun-shaped molds and left to cool. The final result is a tasty treat that will tickle your taste buds.
European CBD gummies have several advantages over traditional consumption methods like oils or vapes. Let’s take a closer look at some of them.
One of the main advantages of CBD gummies in Europe is their unsuspicious nature. Unlike other methods like smoking or vaping, gummies are discreet and won’t draw unwanted attention. They’re also convenient and suitable for carrying around. You can take them wherever you go and chew them for quick tension relief.
Another notable advantage of CBD gummies in Ireland is their precise dosage control. Each gummy is packed with a specific amount of CBD extract, making it easy to control and adjust your dosage until you find the ideal amount. This is especially helpful for beginners or those who want a milder experience.
Another reason to consider CBD gummies in Ireland is their long-lasting effects. Once you eat a gummy, it takes a while for your gastrointestinal system to digest and release it into your bloodstream. This delayed onset of effects and sustained release of cannabinoids allows you to feel the effects of cannabis for several more hours.
Lastly, you don’t need any special equipment or preparation to enjoy gummies. All you need to do is pop one in your mouth, chew, and swallow like a regular gummy. This ease of use makes gummies perfect for those looking for a hassle-free experience and those who want to enjoy cannabis/hemp on the go.
CBD gummies have the same legal status as CBD oil in Ireland and the UK. They’re legal if they’re derived from hemp, contain less than 0.2% THC, and are not advertised as medicine.
Gummies are regulated as supplements and must meet certain labeling requirements to ensure consumer safety. Products with a higher level of THC are illegal and classified as controlled substances.
So it’s crucial to buy gummies from a reputable brand that provides lab reports confirming their products' THC and CBD content. The Irish government continuously reviews its cannabis laws, so stay updated to ensure compliance.
CBD gummies in Ireland may offer various benefits to different people. The major cannabinoids in CBD gummies are CBD, CBG, CBN.
These cannabinoids, along with hemp’s other compounds, such as terpenes and flavonoids, interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system to induce their beneficial effects. Let’s take a look at some of these medicinal effects.
Many use CBD gummies in Europe to manage pain and inflammation. A 2023 study published in the European Journal of Pain found that oral cannabinoid therapy may have analgesic effects in alleviating chronic pain. This study suggests that cannabinoids like CBD interact with receptors throughout the body to reduce inflammation and pain response.
These findings make Irish CBD gummies a safe and promising option for those who want to manage chronic pain. The pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects of CBD are also beneficial for athletes who want to speed up their recovery.
Another potential benefit of CBD gummies in Ireland is their ability to reduce stress and promote calmness. A study conducted in 2019 investigated the anxiolytic effects of CBD treatment in teenagers with social anxiety disorders. The results showed that CBD significantly reduced anxiety levels and improved mental well-being.
Another paper reviewed the findings of seven clinical trials on the effectiveness of CBD for stress control. All trials showed that CBD could significantly reduce stress response in participants and compete with pharmaceutical alternatives. So, if you’re feeling stressed, CBD can help you keep calm and cope with anxiety.
Several studies suggest you can use CBD gummies in Europe for a better night of sleep. A study published in The Permanente Journal examined the effects of CBD on sleep and anxiety. The results showed that 79.2% of participants experienced decreased anxiety, and 66.7% reported improved sleep quality.
Another study found that CBD significantly reduced sleep-wake latency in adults with insomnia. With further research, CBD may be able to replace harmful sleep medications to help people battle insomnia.
CBD gummies in Ireland may offer various other science-backed benefits, including:
It's important to note that further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of CBD gummies. The existing studies provide promising preliminary results, but more extensive research, including large clinical trials, is required to establish concrete evidence.
How to Choose Quality CBD Gummies ?
When it comes to choosing high-quality CBD Gummies in Ireland, it's crucial to consider the following factors.
Firstly, you must only buy gummies from reputable companies with strict quality control standards. Look for companies with good reputations, positive customer reviews, and transparency about their manufacturing processes. This will ensure you’re getting safe and reliable gummies with each purchase.
Secondly, always check for third-party lab test results. These documents should be readily available on the manufacturer's website or upon request. They will ensure the Irish CBD gummies you’re getting are free from toxins and harmful additives and contain the exact amount of cannabinoids printed on the label.
Lastly, determine the right CBD concentration for your needs. Consider your age, weight, desired effects, and tolerance level. Start with less potent products at lower concentrations if you're a beginner to familiarize yourself with CBD's effects.
Those taking CBD gummies in Ireland for a specific health condition can consult a healthcare professional to determine the most suitable dosage.
By considering these aspects, you can be sure you’re buying CBD gummies that are effective, safe, and optimised for your specific needs.

CBD flower, also known as hemp flower, refers to the flowering buds of the hemp plant that have been specially cultivated to contain high levels of cannabidiol (CBD) and low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD flower is often consumed by smoking or vaporising the buds, which allows the CBD to be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs. It can also be used to make oils, balms, and other CBD-infused products. CBD has a lot of potential health benefits, which include reducing inflammation, relieving pain and anxiety, improving sleep quality, and promoting overall feelings of relaxation and well-being, we see this directly from our customer feedback. Unlike Cannabis, which is still illegal in many places, CBD flower in Ireland is legal along with the rest of EU as long as it contains less than 0.2% THC.
CBD flower has several benefits over other forms of CBD, including:
In addition to these benefits, many people prefer the act of smoking or vaping CBD flower as a more enjoyable and relaxing way to consume CBD.
Combusting and bringing smoke into your body is never good but if you want to smoke CBD flower the best way while negating most of the potential side effects, we recommend using dry herb vaporiser.
These vaporisers heat up the CBD Flower to the perfect temperature so you get the full flavour, aroma and benefits of the CBD Flower and terpenes.
Additionally if you prefer you can roll up the CBD Flower in rolling papers
It's important to note that smoking anything, including CBD flower, can have negative effects on lung health and should be done in moderation.
It is advised that people with certain conditions (such as Tuberculosis, Lung Cancer and others) not to smoke CBD Flower, because bringing smoke into your body may affect these conditions.
Terpenes are a mixture of organic aromatic molecules forming a compound that is unique to every plant They are responsible for most of the smells and flavours of herbs and spices that we add to our food everyday. Terpenes are produced by a variety of plants, from conifers to lavenders and citruses. Terpenes are found in the resinous trichomes of the hemp plant. There are many different terpenes found in hemp, each with its own unique flavour and therapeutic properties. Terpenes work synergistically with other compounds in hemp, including cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, CBC, CBDa and THC in turn this produces enhanced Health benefits and creates the entourage effect. This refers to the theory that the combination of multiple compounds found in hemp may have a more significant therapeutic effect than any of these compounds alone. Types of Terpenes Found in CBD Flower There are many different terpenes found in CBD flower, here are some of the most common terpenes and their potential benefits: Myrcene: Is a terpene that is found in many strains of hemp and it is known for its sedative effects. It is believed to work by increasing the permeability of cell membranes, allowing other cannabinoids to be more easily absorbed by the body. Limonene: Is a terpene found in some strains of hemp and is believed to have stress-relieving and antidepressant effects. It is also commonly found in citrus fruits and has a distinct citrusy aroma. Alpha Pinene: Is the most abundant terpene on earth. It is found in plants such as pine needles, basil, dill, and rosemary and it gives them their fresh scent. and has a distinctive piney aroma. Linalool: Is a terpene found in some strains of hemp and is believed to have sedative and calming effects. It is also found in lavender and has a floral aroma
Terpenes play a significant role in the overall effects of CBD flower.
For example, some terpenes are believed to increase the absorption of cannabinoids by the body, while others are thought to have their own therapeutic properties, such as anti-inflammatory or sedative effects.
Terpenes also add to the unique aroma and flavour of different hemp strains. This is why some strains have a citrusy aroma, while others have a piney or floral scent. By selecting strains that are rich in specific terpenes, individuals can customise their experience and target specific health concerns.
By understanding the role that terpenes play in the entourage effect, individuals can make informed choices when selecting CBD flower strains that are best suited to their needs. Whether you are looking for stress relief, relaxation, or pain management, there is a CBD flower strain rich in terpenes that may be able to help you achieve your goals.
When CBD Flower is heated, a process called decarboxylation occurs, which causes most of the acidic form of cannabinoids, such as CBDa (cannabidiolic acid), to convert to their active form, such as CBD in turn this compounds the effect of the CBD Flower
CBD along with CBDa has been shown to have many benefits such as anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and pain-relieving properties, among many others, as you can see in our reviews
One study published in the journal Future Medicinal Chemistry in 2019 investigated the potential anti-inflammatory effects of CBDa in rats with induced arthritis.
In the study, rats were given an injection of a substance that induces arthritis, and then treated with CBDa. The researchers found that CBDa was effective in reducing inflammation in the rats' paws, as well as reducing levels of certain enzymes that play a role in the inflammatory response.
Studies suggest that CBDa may have potential as an anti-inflammatory agent for conditions such as arthritis as well as other benefits.
Overall, CBD flower is a natural and customisable way to consume CBD and it has the potential to enhance the end result through the entourage effect.
Full Circle Hemp will release its own line of CBD Flower soon!!

If you are a health-enthusiast, by now you probably know all about the benefits of CBD and have tried some products yourself. But CBD is only one of hemp's beneficial cannabinoids. Another one that has recently come into the spotlight is CBG. This noteworthy opponent, or better yet, supplement to CBD, is becoming the "it" substance in the health world and has just as many good qualities as CBD, if not even more. So stick with us if you want to know more about CBG oil in Ireland. Here, we will tell you all about CBG oil, its benefits, legality, and more. We will also talk about the differences between CBD vs. CBG. So keep reading this CBG oil guide to learn what this new product can do for you.
CBG or cannabigerol is one of the major cannabinoids of the cannabis plant that was first discovered in the 1960s. It's called the mother of all cannabinoids because it's the non-acidic precursor to all other cannabinoids. Phytocannabinoids like CBD, THC, etc., are all derived from the acidic form of CBG, called CBGA or cannabigerolic acid. CBGA is the first cannabinoid that forms in hemp. Then as the plant matures, it's broken down by enzymes into three other cannabinoids including
After harvesting the plant, these compounds are further processed to create the more well-known cannabinoids such as CBD, THC, and CBC.
As a result of exposure to light and heat, small amounts of CBGA may also break down to its neutral form, which is CBG. The window of opportunity for harvesting a plant with a high CBG content is very slim because this cannabinoid appears in the early stages of the plant's life, from 6-8 weeks. This timeframe is when CBG has not yet turned into other cannabinoids and can be extracted in high concentrations. But even then, the yield will be very low. Due to this scarcity, CBG oil in Ireland is considered a high-end product, but one worth trying.
CBG hemp oil’s legality has not been determined like the legality of CBD oil in Ireland, since this substance is relatively new. However, CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid itself, meaning it won’t get you high, and the determining factor in a product’s legality is its THC content. We can safely assume that the laws surrounding the Irish CBG oil work similar to CBD’s regulations. So if CBG is sourced from a certain strain of hemp and the final product contains less than 0.2% THC, it is legal.
CBG and CBD are both non-intoxicating phytocannabinoids of the cannabis plant with different molecular structures. CBG is the younger form of cannabinoid and the source of CBD that is found in lower amounts in the early stages of the plant’s cycle. In fact, most cannabis plants contain just about 1% CBG, while they can have up to 25% CBD.
There are trace amounts of CBG in full spectrum CBD oils, but brands are focusing on a more CBG-rich product because studies are showing that this compound is more powerful and beneficial than CBD. Another aspect in the battle of CBD vs. CBG is that there is much lower THC present in CBG oils because the plant has not had the time to convert all the precursor cannabinoids into their matured forms.
CBG’s medical properties have not been researched as extensively as CBD’s. The studies that have been done, however, have very promising findings. While they suggest CBG may affect similar conditions that CBD can affect, they show that CBG has further potential and may address conditions that CBD does not impact. We need more research and clinical trials to confirm any of these effects for sure. With that said, let’s take a look at some potential health benefits of CBG oil in Ireland.
A 2013 study explored the anti-inflammatory potential of CBG on mice with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The results showed that CBG was able to reduce multiple inflammatory markers in the colons of the mice, such as nitric oxide production.
Another research in 2018 studied the effects of CBG on neurological inflammation. Scientists saw an improvement in neuronal survivability and a reduction in the neurons’ inflammation and oxidative stress. So the Irish CBG oil can become a powerful anti-inflammation solution with further research.
CBG oil in Ireland might also be an effective antimicrobial remedy, according to a study in 2020 that discovered CBG’s antibacterial properties against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Another study in 2021 also pointed to CBG’s antibacterial potential by testing it against the cavity-causing bacteria in the mouth, Streptococcus mutans. After administering CBG to the bacteria, scientists saw a change in the microorganism’s cell membrane and a drop in pH, both of which made the bacteria weaker.
Another potential benefit of CBG oil in Ireland is related to glaucoma. A study shows that CBG can reduce intraocular eye pressure and increase aqueous humor outflow in patients suffering from glaucoma. The study suggests that this is due to the presence of cannabinoid receptors in the eye area, and with further research, CBG can turn into an effective treatment for this condition.
Cannabinoids can also become promising remedies for neurological conditions like Huntington’s disease. This is a rare and inherited neurodegenerative condition that destroys nerve cells in the brain and currently has no cure.
In a 2015 study, scientists administered CBG to rodents with this disease and observed how this cannabinoid improved cell regeneration and oxidative stress in the subjects’ brains. They also saw an improvement in motor coordination as a result of CBG, which shows this compound’s potential in reversing the damages of Huntington’s Disease.
The Irish CBG oil may also be a remedy for colon cancer, as it is shown in a 2020 review. This article highlighted the studies on mice with colon cancer, in which scientists observed that CBG and CBGA reduced tumor growth by blocking TRPM8 channels. CBG also suppressed the generation of new colorectal cancer cells.
Studies on CBG show its effectiveness as an appetite stimulant which can be helpful for cancer patients who lose their appetites as a result of chemotherapy. In a 2016 study, scientists examined the appetite-boosting properties of this cannabinoid in rats. Subjects that were given cannabigerol oil every three days ate twice as much as their peers in the control group that did not receive any CBG.
Lastly, the Irish CBG oil may also benefit those who deal with bladder dysfunction. Research suggests that different cannabinoids may affect the bladder’s contractions. A 2015 study examined the effects of five non-psychotropic cannabinoids on bladder contractility. It found that CBG was the most effective one against this dysfunction, followed by THCV, CBD, and CBDV.
Due to the positive responses from users of Irish CBG oils, not many studies have been done on the side effects of this natural substance. However, if you use too much of any product, you can expect consequences. Side effects of excessive CBG are similar to those of CBD and may include diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, and vomiting. These side effects will subside within a few hours, and not everyone will experience them. Each person responds slightly differently to CBG, so it’s important to find the dosage of the product that works for you and not go above that.
The extraction of CBG oils in Ireland is a costly and time-consuming process, and that is why you hear less of this product compared to CBD oils. Since the time window for extracting pure CBG is very narrow and the yield is very low, it’s not an economic option for most companies to invest in. However, many cannabis breeders are trying to develop more CBG-rich strains to make this product available to everyone. Until then, CBG oil remains a high-end product in the world of cannabis.
Now that you know all about CBG oil, you can decide if you want to try it out and see its effects for yourself. This cannabinoid has much to offer, and current studies included in our CBG oil guide have only scratched the surface. If you decide to go for it and use this oil for a specific condition, consult your doctor beforehand and start with low doses. If you want to stick with the traditional CBD oil, Full Circle Hemp has got you covered. We provide third-party lab-tested, premium CBD products for all of Europe. The use of CBD vape in Ireland has increased significantly in the past few years, along with some other CBD products. If you want to try a CBD vape, but you don’t know anything about it, then this article is for you. We will tell you all you need to know about CBD vapes and introduce you to the best CBD vape in Ireland & UK.
CBD has quickly turned into a popular product after its first introduction into the market. It claims to be an all-natural aid. And these are not just claims. They are backed up by thousands of testimonials from happy customers and scientific research that proves more of its benefits every year. CBD comes in many forms such as capsules, oils, creams, etc. and each takes a different time length to affect the body.
The fastest way to see the result of CBD is by using a CBD vape.
Vaping is the process of inhaling vapor through a vape pen. The vape pen consists of a power source, an atomizer, and a cartridge that holds the liquid that you vape. Vaping, which was originally introduced as a method to help smokers quit, is now used by many non-smokers for delivering beneficial compounds to the body. One of these compounds is CBD, the non-intoxicating component of the hemp plant.
Your lung will immediately absorb the CBD you vape and it will enter your bloodstream in a matter of seconds. After about 10 minutes, 30-60% of the inhaled CBD will be distributed throughout your body where it will stay for another 3 hours. The instantaneous effectiveness of a CBD vape makes it a good option if you’re targeting acute pain.
But there is so much more to vaping CBD that you need to know to have a safe experience and avoid toxicities. Let’s look at some of those.
The industry of CBD vape in Ireland & UK has gone through many changes in terms of what is used in the products, but the main focus has been on four different ingredients:
While CBD isolate has not shown any side effects and is completely safe, various studies show the other ingredients that most companies use in their vape juices, are toxic.
For instance, a 2018 study from the University of North Carolina found that synthetic flavorings such as vanillin and butter flavorings, among many other artificial flavors, are highly toxic for the body and can adversely affect cell viability, which is the measure of healthy viable cells in a population. For a full list of chemicals and their toxicities, you can check out this website.
Other than the flavors, propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin can be toxic too. There are various percentage blends of these two products in a CBD vape, from 80/20 to 60/40 or 50/50, usually in favor of a higher percentage of propylene glycol. But according to consumers, PG can cause headaches and dry mouth, and leave a plastic aftertaste. Besides, formaldehyde, acrolein, and acetaldehyde are products of propylene glycol and glycerol heated vaporization. According to studies, these are all carcinogens, which means they can cause cancer. And you’re choosing a CBD vape to receive its benefits not get cancer!
At Full Circle Hemp, we have never been aligned with the use of propylene glycol or vegetable glycerine to produce a CBD vape product because of their toxic and carcinogenic side effects.
One of our main passions is to educate and empower our customers by continuously creating effective and transformative products for them. Right now, most of the companies providing CBD vape in Ireland create products that have a low percentage of CBD, with a maximum of 500mg CBD in a 10ml bottle of CBD vape juice. This means the CBD content is only 5% and accompanied by the previously mentioned toxic compounds.
That is why we have increasingly seen the need for a stronger CBD vape product that is not only less harmful to the body but delivers instant effects. So we conducted extensive research and during our travels to the US became aware that most health-conscious American CBD vape consumers leaned towards a pure CBD distillate infused with plant-based terpenes that mimic the effects of cannabis strains.
CBD distillate contains up to 90% pure CBD and many more of hemp’s natural and beneficial compounds, and studies show that CBD vape distillate has a significantly lower hazard index than smoking hemp flower or hemp bud. Since distillates can be tested for the pesticides and heavy metals often found in CBD vape juices, we knew that we could produce a clean product rich in cannabinoids and terpenes without the harmful agents.
These efforts have all led us to produce our wide range of CBD vape products with a high strength of 50% CBD blend providing 500mg of CBD per 1ml cartridge and 250mg of CBD in a 0.5ml cartridge. The high strength means an instant effect with less vaping.
One of the most important areas of vaping pure natural terpene infused CBD vape distillate is your hardware. In our vape pen kits, we use the highest quality hardware to give you the most satisfying experience. Our fully ceramic cartridges create the perfect temperature and allow the true flavors of the terpene infused CBD vape distillate to come through. Along with reusable batteries and environmental-friendly material, you can enjoy your CBD vape without harming the environment.
Our CBD vape products are a range of hand-blended, terpene infused CBD distillates that we have created with great diligence and care. Featuring pure CBD distillate infused with a Sativa, Indica, or Hybrid blend of terpenes.
These blends each bring their own effects based on the strains that they mimic. The Sativa acts as a daytime blend that is energizing and creative; the Hybrid is synergistically uplifting yet relaxing. The Indica is a night time blend for deep relaxation and body ease.
Our distillate contains a full array of cannabinoids that includes a high percentage of CBG (Cannabigerol) and different terpenes. We’ve been talking a lot about terpenes without really looking at what they are and what they can do for your body. Next, we are going to take a deeper look at terpenes and their effects. Plus, we’ll tell you which ones are in our products, so you can choose based on your needs.
Terpenes or terpenoids are natural aromatic components of most plants, responsible for their scents and extracted essential oils and used in perfumes and aromatherapy. Other than playing a part in the plant's defense mechanisms by fending off harmful insects and attracting good ones like bees, terpenes help enhance the effects of cannabinoids like CBD. This is called an entourage effect where terpenes and other compounds of the cannabis plant work together with cannabinoids to create a better and more wholesome experience.
Plus, studies show that terpenes can limit the effects of psychoactive cannabinoids like THC and allow the effects to dominate. With more than 100 types in different strains of the cannabis plant, terpenes can give each strain a unique effect and be the determining factor in their difference.
Here are some of the terpenes we use in our CBD vape products:
Myrcene
Myrcene is one of the main terpenes in cannabis and other plants such as lemongrass, thyme, and hops. Most of the currently used cannabis strains are the ones that are dominated by Myrcene. This terpene has an earthy flavor with several benefits backed by science, including its antioxidant properties. For a CBD vape with Myrcene, you can try our Blue Dream products.
Alpha Pinene
Alpha Pinene is the most abundant terpene on earth. It is found in plants such as pine needles, basil, dill, and rosemary and it gives them their fresh scent.
Alpha Pinene is responsible for the piney taste and aroma of cannabis. Its research-based benefits include its anti-microbial effects. Plus, studies show that it can help improve memory.
For a CBD vape with Alpha Pinene, you can try our Blue Dream products.
Limonene
The second most abundant terpene in nature is Limonene. It is commonly found in fruits such as orange, lime, and lemon and carries with it the citrusy scent and flavor.
Other than its energizing effects, research suggests it also has antioxidant properties.
For a CBD vape with Limonene, you can try our Key Lime Pie, Blueberry Muffin, and Gelato products
Beta-Caryophyllene
Beta-Caryophyllene can be found in herbs like black pepper and cloves. It holds an herbal and spicy flavor.
Beta-Caryophyllene interacts directly with the CB2 receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system.
For a CBD vape with Beta-Caryophyllene, you can try our Key Lime Pie, Blueberry Muffin, and Gelato products.
Ocimene
Linalool is most commonly found in lavender and coriander and has a strong floral scent with hints of citrus. Linalool is responsible for the calming effects of lavender essential oils.
Studies show that Linalool has antimicrobial properties.
For a CBD vape with Linalool, you can try our Gelato products.
These are just some of the terpenes we use. We have other terpene infused CBD vape products including our Green Crack vape with a citrusy and earthy flavor and energizing effect, and our Zikittles vape with a taste of tropical fruits that improves focus.
Full Circle Hemp is the leading provider of the highest quality CBD vape in Ireland with different flavors and effects. CBD vape is the perfect complement to other CBD products or can simply be used by itself for its quick effectiveness. So choose your CBD vape from our wide range of third-party lab-tested terpene infused CBD vape products. With so many of us staying at home in this extraordinary time we thought it would be lovely to share how easy it is to use CBD in your cooking.
CBD has undoubtedly become an immensely popular food supplement with users reportedly enjoying many benefits. Those of us that use CBD Oil regularly mainly take CBD sublingually (under the tongue before swallowing) but CBD can also be ingested (taking a CBD capsule for example) and what better way than in food and drink.
One of our favourite night time treats is a CBD Turmeric Latte and the kids love it! It settles them down for the night and brings them all the known goodness of Turmeric, Ginger and CBD.
If you have fresh turmeric you can use that instead of the ground turmeric. Just peel and slice half an inch to an inch of turmeric root and add to your milk of choice.
If you have the time and inclination then gather a few cardamon pods and split to remove the small black seeds inside. It's these that have all that amazing flavour and goodness. Gently roast them in a non stick frying pan for a few minutes and then add to a pestle and mortor and grind with the other dry spices.
You can have such fun playing around with this basic recipe. Here are some of our favourites:
Place the milk in a small pan and heat slowly and gently to avoid burning.
Add the turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and pepper and whisk until the milk is steaming but not boiling as we want to retain any heat sensitive components.
Remove from the heat and whisk in your CBD of choice and add your choice of sweetener to taste.
So easy and so good!
Sit back, inhale, sip and enjoy!
Our 10ml 5%/500mg CBD oil is our starting point for CBD and great to use for children
Let us know how you get on and if you've enjoyed the recipe feel free to share the love with your firends and family on Facebook and Instagram.
Wishing you all a healthy transition time into Spring.
With love and warmth from all of us at the Full Circle Hemp Family

Our fast paced and goal orientated society and way of living brought much anxiety to many of us. I'm sure all of us can say we've experienced anxiety at some point in our lives. Today we're being asked to stop but that can bring anxiety of its own. These are certainly challenging times but isn't it also the perfect opportunity to introduce some anxiety and stress relieving tools into our everyday lives? Let's look at how anxiety manifests itself.
We all recognise the signs. They come mentally, emotionally and physically:
Basically our central nervous system goes into overdrive as our mind and body perceive the situation as being unsafe in some way and the body becomes wired to respond accordingly. So how can we support the mind/body system to relax when it's been triggered into this response?
"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"-Heave
How often do we really stop and bring our awareness to our breathe? Most of us walk around in tension and our breathe becomes shallow and restricted to the top part of our lungs. To move our system into relaxation we simply bring awareness to our breathe, elongate it and deepen it. Try it now...inhale deep down into the belly so that your belly expands as you inhale. Can you feel how the bottom of the lungs fill will air and your breathing is not restricted to the upper part of your chest? Exhale slowly from the belly up so that the top of your lungs are the last to empty. Make the exhale longer than the inhale. That's the key. So even if you're having difficulty breathing then just make the exhale longer and your breathe will begin to calm down. Maybe you inhale for 4 counts and exhale for 6 counts.
Did you notice how the belly comes in when you exhale? How do you feel now?
Here are some other breathing exercises that you could incorporate too.
"Smile, breathe and go slowly"-Thich Nhat Hanh
Movement is one of the best things for working with the energy of anxiety in the body. Doesn't it feel like it just wants to get out? Isn't all that energy in the body just screaming to move instead of being shut down? So let it move! Shaking is my absolute favourite way of moving energy and here's how I do it:
Here is a great little instructional video of shaking, why it works and how to do it.
I also love putting on some headphones and dancing like a mad one! Let it all out, move, shake, jump, shimmy...dance like nobody is watching! It doesn't matter what you look like, it's all about moving that anxious energy in the body...
Here are some teachers of 5Rhythms Dance/Movement Meditation in Ireland. Perhaps you could find a class near you?

Being in Nature has this incredible ability to soothe the system. It grounds us. It's a beautiful reminder to slow down and breathe. There is science behind this of course as we know that the Sun gives us vitamin D and this study speaks of Vit D deficiency in anxiety and depression. It goes without saying that getting some sun can help alleviate depression and anxiety. Placing our bare feet on the ground also helps. This is called Grounding and this is what Dr Stephen Sinatra has to say about it:
"This energy infusion is powerful stuff. It can restore and stabilize the bioelectrical circuitry that governs your physiology and organs, harmonize your basic biological rhythms, boost self-healing mechanisms, reduce inflammation and pain, and improve your sleep and feeling of calmness. When these things happen, you feel better in a big way.”
"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." -Lao Tzu
We find it so difficult to be still don't we?! At least we do when it comes to being still without any distractions like watching TV or listening to music. Being still with eyes closed with nothing but what is going on inside of us can actually make some of us feel even more anxious. But trust me, it takes effort initially but once you get past the wanting to run a mile away from being still with yourself, then everything starts to relax and the rewards are enormous. The very act of remaining in the face of uncomfortable feelings and agitation wears something down and the whole system begins to soften. We learn amazing skills in doing this. We learn patience with ourselves, we learn compassion for ourselves, we learn how not to move in the face of discomfort, we become strong, willing to meet anything that may arise. It's like a muscle that has never been used that begins to strengthen and grow until one day you realise you're so much stronger than you ever felt possible. A great way to learn how to remain is to come deeply into the body space. It brings us into the present moment and away from our spiralling thoughts. The video below is taken from Judith Blackstone's "The Realisation Process" which you can find in more depth here. It's been hugely helpful for many of us in the extended Full Circle Hemp Family.
Below the video is a simple step by step guide to being still and meeting what arises in the heart of your love.
Be comfortable and be still. It's best to be sitting upright to prevent sleep! Relax the body and become aware of the whole body at the same time. Follow the breath. The mind/body will want to move, just remain, just remain, just remain...
Allow everything to be as it is. If thoughts come, and they will rush in, come back to the breath and the body when you remember. Be gentle, it's not to strain. The intention is not to stop the mind (which requires effort) but to relax.
Be open to receive whatever comes. Find your heart and rest there. If there is something in the way of feeling your heart (an emotion for example) welcome that. Trust that whatever comes is looking to be brought back into your Love.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a complex system that is still being explored by scientists. What is known is that it consists of receptors (CB1 & CB2 and possibly more as yet undiscovered receptors) that are endogenous to all mammals, their bodies and their brains. These receptors play a key role in regulating the physiological systems that govern mood (which we're looking at here), pain, appetite and memory amongst others things. When the Endocannabinoid System is deficient it moves out of homeostasis (balance) and can cause all sorts of dis-ease or irregularities, including changes in our moods.
The ability to be with ourselves in all the messy times as well as the easier times is

CBD Oil in Ireland may be legally purchased and used as long as it contains less than 0.2% Tetrahydrocannabinol or commonly known as THC. The increase of awareness of CBD oil as well as the public demand is increasing each day across the globe. In the following article, by our team here at Full Circle Hemp, we will discuss the many claimed benefits and how exactly CBD works throughout our bodies. Firstly let start with what exactly is CBD?
CBD is one of the most abundant cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa plant. CBD is mainly and legally extracted from the variety of cannabis sativa known as hemp. Hemp has been used by both ancient and modern civilisations since it was first documented by the Chinese around 3000BC. Since these early years, the trade and spread of cannabis reached every corner of the world.
CBD was first identified in the 1940s and was at first thought to be a precursor cannabinoid to THC. Fast-forward two decades and a couple of research papers later, scientists realised that CBD was, in fact, a cannabinoid on its own. Since then over 100 cannabinoids and 500 compounds have since been identified in the cannabis sativa plant. Most of these cannabinoids have potential benefits, however, more studies have to be conducted until evidence is conclusive. However, scientists are excited about the future of cannabis and its potential value to society.
Cannabis is made up of a variety of fairly unique compounds. As mentioned above there are already hundreds of known molecules and the majority are made up of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. The two major cannabinoids that make up the majority profile of cannabis are THC and CBD. THC is the psychoactive compound that is responsible for the “high” or psychotropic effects of using cannabis. On the other hand, CBD is not psychotropic and does not cause one to feel euphoric or spaced out. CBD is psychotropic as it does have an effect on our brain and essentially our natural well-being.
CBD – Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that accounts for up to 40% of the cannabinoids extracted from hemp.
CBDa - Cannabidiolic acid is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is the acidic precursor to CBD. It is found in abundance in live cannabis plants especially hemp. It is converted to CBD through a process known as decarboxylation and after heat is applied it transforms in CBD. CBDa may be used by juicing raw cannabis and also found in tinctures, topicals and oils.
THC - Tetrahydrocannabinol is the psychoactive compound found in abundance in most cannabis strain varieties grown for recreational purposes. There are limited amounts found in hemp and legally speaking cannabis sativa with lower amounts of 0.2% THC is known as hemp and is legal.
Endocannabinoid System
Our ECS was discovered by Raphael Mechoulam while investigating cannabinoids. The story begins in 1992 and has evolved over a few decades of research and trials. The first cannabis receptor was identified in the brain of a rat during trials in 1988 and since then scientists have concluded that we have thousands of these receptors located in our throughout our immune and central nervous system. Essentially these two systems make up our ECS and this biological system can be found in every living being with vertebrae. These discoveries led to us understanding how cannabinoids affect our bodies and brains, and we still never expected the impact and importance of cannabinoids in our physiology. There is still much-needed research required into cannabinoids as researchers still are not quite sure exactly how CBD and associated cannabinoids work, but we are getting there!
“By using a plant that has been around for thousands of years, we discovered a new physiological system of immense importance,” says Raphael Mechoulam, the dean of the transnational cannabinoid research community. “We wouldn’t have been able to get there if we had not looked at the plant.”
Our ECS is a large system comprised of both our immune and central nervous system and contains thousands of CB1 and CB2 receptors that interact with cannabinoids. These cannabinoids are also naturally produced by our bodies and known as endocannabinoids and one such cannabinoid is Anandamide. Discovered by Raphael Mechoulam in 1992 it was the first endocannabinoid isolated that is naturally produced by our bodies. Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD are also naturally made, but made predominantly by cannabis sativa and technically known as phytocannabinoids.
Our ECS interacts with both phyto- and endo-cananbinoids in exactly the same way. In layman's terms, if our bodies are not producing enough endocannabinoids it makes sense to supplement with phytocannabinoids from cannabis sativa.
All these cannabinoids interact with our ECS in different ways. For example, THC binds with the CB1 and CB2 receptors and CBD acts as a THC inhibitor and also regulates important bodily functions.
More receptors increase a person’s sensitivity to cannabinoids; smaller doses have larger effects, and the individual has an enhanced baseline of endocannabinoid activity. I believe that small, regular doses of cannabis might act as a tonic to our most central physiologic system.” – Dustin Sulak
Entourage Effect
The entourage effect is a term used to describe the synergistic effect of the compounds found in cannabis sativa and the effect on the ECS. It was discovered in 1998 by S. Ben-Shabat and Raphael Mechoulam in Israel and was a term used to describe their findings of how predominantly non-psychoactive cannabis compounds modulate the psychoactive effects of the cannabis plant. In other words, isolated cannabinoids don't work as well as a combination of cannabinoids.
Full Spectrum CBD oil
This brings us to our last topic and we go into why Full Spectrum CBD Oil is better due to the “entourage effect”. Even with the minute volumes of THC ( >0.02% THC ) the effect when combined with CBD and other terpenes, flavonoids and cannabinoids have a more significant effect on our ECS than isolated distillate cannabinoids by themselves. This effect is still under research as scientists are still not fully aware of all the functions full spectrum oil has on the body and mind. One thing is for certain is that cannabinoids are the bridge between the body and mind and help bring the body towards a better internal balance. This balance is known as homeostasis and is a place whereby your body is at a stable equilibrium, meaning health and wellness.
Conclusion
Although not conclusive, thousands of studies are proving the potential of cannabis as a nutritional supplement and also investigating the magical properties of cannabis. With cannabis legislation changing across the globe, many institutions and universities are now able to research a plant with thousands of uses.
CBD is not scheduled under any drug control treaties and the World Health Organisation recommends it remains unscheduled. Further more the World Anti-Doping Agency has recently removed CBD from its list of banned substances which now allows athletes to use CBD for their pre- and post workout. It's an amazing time we are living in and it seems cannabis is set to be the new go-to alternative supplement of choice for your health and well-being.

CBD and THC have become household names in the past few years. Even those who don't use cannabis have heard about them. You've probably tried CBD oil once or twice yourself and experienced its positive effects. But these are just two of over 100 cannabinoids within this extraordinary plant. With every new research, more cannabinoids are found, each with more promising properties than the one before. One of these emerging cannabinoids is CBDa. This natural compound is becoming more famous in the hemp-dominant health market, but not many know of its potential. So in this CBDa oil guide, we will take a closer look at this cannabinoid. We will discuss its benefits and tell you all you need to know about CBDa oil in Ireland. So stay with us if you want to try a new product.
CBDa or cannabidiolic acid is the non-intoxicating precursor to CBD. It's one of the many substances on the list of major cannabinoids and it was first isolated in 1965 by an Israeli scientist. This acidic chemical is considered the raw form of cannabidiol because when it's decarboxylated, it transforms into CBD. Decarboxylation occurs when the hemp plant is heated, dried, or processed. Any of these processes can lead to a molecular change in CBDa and remove an acidic carboxyl group from its molecular chain, turning it into CBD. The Irish CBDa oil, like all other cannabinoid products, stems from the mother cannabinoid, CBGa, or cannabigerolic acid. Plant enzymes break CBGa down into three main cannabinoids, including THCa, CBCa, and CBDa. Once the plant fully matures, the CBGa content is almost non-existent. Afterward, the cannabis flowers are used for CBDa extraction in a method similar to CBD extraction.
Since CBDa is the precursor to CBD, it's no surprise that it has a somewhat similar mechanism. These cannabinoids both interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in our body's endocannabinoid system (ECS). ECS is involved in creating balance in the body by regulating different functions like sleep, pain, appetite, and more. Current research shows that phytocannabinoids like CBDa help this system function correctly. According to a recent study, CBDa specifically interacts with the 5-HT1A serotonin receptors. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the brain. These receptors affect multiple biological and neurological processes like anxiety, mood, nausea, appetite, and more. By interacting with them, CBDa may have therapeutic effects on our bodies.
There aren't any specific regulations regarding the legality of CBDa oil in Ireland like there are for the legality of CBD oil in the UK and Ireland. However, since CBDa is non-psychoactive and it's the original form of CBD, it's safe to assume that it is legal just the same if it is sourced from an approved strain of hemp with less than 0.2% THC.
The Irish CBDa oils share similarities and differences with regular CBD oils. Their similarities lie in the fact that they have a similar molecular structure, minus a carboxyl group. Hence their reported therapeutic effects are somewhat the same. Another similarity between these two cannabinoids is that they are both non-psychoactive, unlike their counterpart, THC. So neither of them can get you high.
The main difference between CBD and CBDa oil in Ireland, as we've mentioned before, is in their molecular structure. CBDa is the acidic form of CBD, so it has an extra acidic group in its makeup. CBDa is also 1000 times more bioavailable than CBD and better absorbed by the body.
Another difference is that CBD is only produced after CBDa is exposed to heat or certain processes. Lastly, the consumption method of these two cannabinoids differs. While both can be used as an oil, edible, or topical product, CBDa can be smoked or vaped. If you try to smoke CBDa, you're heating the compound and turning it into CBD.
If you want to get the most out of both compounds, you can be rest assured that our CBDa oil contains 500mg of CBDa as well as 300mg CBD & 20mg CBG. This way, you can experience the entourage effect at its best and enhance the potential benefits of cannabinoids.
Our CBDa oil guide wouldn't be complete if we didn't include a section about its benefits. And CBDa has quite a few potential medical benefits. While more research needs to be done to confirm these effects 100%, they are still worth exploring.
A 2008 research shows the potential anti-inflammatory benefits of CBDa oil in Ireland. In this research, scientists found CBDa to be a selective Cox-2 inhibitor. Cox-2 is an enzyme responsible for causing inflammation. They noticed that CBDa is even more potent at blocking this enzyme compared to THC. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs work the same way. With more research, CBDa can become their safe and all-natural alternative.
The Irish CBDa oil is also a promising remedy for breast cancer, which is a big concern for all women. Following the study above, another study on the down-regulation of Cox-2 found that CBDa can prevent the progression of a specific type of breast cancer, in which the Cox-2 enzyme is higher. CBDa was also effective for reducing the Id-1 protein and increasing Sharp-1 expression. Both these factors help in the suppression of breast cancer. This finding can be used to further test CBDa against other harmful cells in the body.
One study compared the effectiveness of CBD and CBDa in reducing vomiting and nausea. Scientists found that CBDa was much more powerful than CBD against nausea caused by motion and toxins. Research has also found that CBDa is effective in lowering anticipatory nausea that happens before chemotherapy. There aren't any drugs available for this type of nausea. So CBDa can be an effective solution with further investigation. Another study tested the effects of CBDa with an anti-nausea drug, ondansetron. CBDa at a dose 1000 times less than CBD enhanced the impacts of this medication. Now, CBDa is under study for its potent anti-emetic effect, and CBDa oil in Ireland might soon turn into your go-to remedy for when you feel nauseous.
A recent study highlighted CBDa's potential as an antidepressant. According to this study, CBDa acts like pharmaceutical antidepressants by affecting serotonin receptors. The interesting point is that CBDa was effective in 10-100 times lower doses compared to CBD. With further research, we might see prescriptions for oral CBDa antidepressants soon.
CBD became immensely popular when the FDA approved a drug containing this cannabinoid for epileptic patients. New research suggests that its precursor, CBDa, may also be effective for treating seizures in these patients. A study by GW Pharma showed that CBDa acted faster than CBD and had better bioavailability. So CBDa hemp oil may be helpful to patients with epilepsy as well.
One of the latest studies on CBDa claims that this phytocannabinoid, along with another acidic cannabinoid, CBGa can bind to the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the virus that causes COVID-19) and keep the pathogen from entering the cells. The study goes on to suggest that a high dose of CBDa has the potential to prevent and even treat the disease. Although these findings are new and speculative, they paint the Irish CBDa oil as a potential ally in the fight against COVID-19.
CBDa oil is similar to CBD in many aspects, its side effects are also the same but milder. That is if they even occur. Users rarely experience adverse side effects when taking CBD products, and the ones reported are usually due to a product’s low quality or the user’s overconsumption of it. Either way, here are some of the side effects of CBDa:
As you can see in our CBDa oil guide, this cannabinoid does indeed have tremendous potential to become the next “it” product in the thriving cannabis industry. When CBD entered the healthcare industry, it became instantly popular. Now thousands of people across the world use it in different ways to improve their health. But the laws around it are not clear in every country and Portugal is one of them. So if you're Portuguese and interested in CBD, keep reading. In this guide to CBD in Portugal, we will take a look at the history of CBD in this country, its current legal status, and where you can buy it from to reap its benefits.
Before we jump into our guide to CBD in Portugal, we need to tell you what CBD even is. CBD or cannabidiol is one of more than 100 naturally occurring phytocannabinoids in the cannabis plant.
Many confuse it with the intoxicating phytocannabinoid THC and think it creates a euphoric state in the user. But CBD is non-psychoactive and the products on the market are derived from a variety of hemp with low levels of THC that aren’t enough to get you high.
In fact, CBD is under study for its potential health benefits and it’s showing promise in pain management and sleep improvement among other things. The way CBD does these things is by interacting with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system creates homeostasis in the body by affecting our mood, pain, sleep, and many other things. When CBD enters the body, it is helped connect to the CB1 receptor with small amounts of THC, 0.2% & Terpenes like Beta-caryophyllene within the CB2 receptors in ECS. That way it regulates our bodily functions and brings back balance.
Cannabis first entered Portugal in the 2nd century BC and was cultivated further in the 8th century. Later in the 15th century, Portuguese colonizers came across it in Africa and India where they learned of its further applications. They started using it to make tea, cords, nets, sails, and clothes among other things. In the 16th century, they even brought the plant back to their new colonies in South America. Slowly, the economy of Portugal became dependent on the crop. Even after a damaging war with Spain, King John IV commanded the formation of the Royal Linen and Hemp Factory to raise hemp production and restore the wrecked ships. People continued to use cannabis in food and medicine until 1971. After that, Portugal signed the UN’s Convention on Psychotropic Substances and cannabis became illegal.
A few years ago, the Portuguese parliament received two proposals. One was from the Peoples Animal Nature party (PAN) and the other from the Left Committee. PAN's proposal suggested that people should be able to possess up to 75 grams of cannabis and each household should be able to grow six plants. The second proposal gave a roadmap for the cultivation and distribution of the plant that would have presented a challenge for the black market and provided cannabis at a more affordable price to those who needed it. The parliament rejected both proposals.
The short answer is yes. CBD is legal in Portugal for medicinal uses with a prescription and you shouldn’t get into any legal trouble for possessing CBD products with less than 0.2% THC in them.
But in truth, the legal status of cannabidiol in Portugal is a bit more complicated. Back in 2001, Portugal passed a law that decriminalized the possession and use of all drugs, including cannabis. Today, if authorities catch you with a small quantity of drug (enough for less than 10 days of personal use), the Commission for Dissuasion of Drug Addiction will need to examine you. This committee of legal and medical experts and social workers determines if you need treatment and whether there will be administrative penalties.
CBD itself was completely legal until 2018. Then, following the EU’s novel food law, Portugal banned CBD as a food product. Also in 2018, medical cannabis became legal and people could purchase it from pharmacies with a licensed doctor’s prescription.
Some of the conditions that make a patient eligible for a prescription include having nausea from chemotherapy, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, epilepsy, and more.
So while many believe that CBD products fall in the category of medical cannabis and you need a prescription to buy them, possessing products with less than 0.2% THC shouldn’t be problematic. But if you want to be extra cautious and stay on the safe side after reading this guide to CBD in Portugal, you can buy your product with a prescription or opt for CBD products that don’t contain THC, like broad spectrum CBD oils.
Cultivating a cannabis plant for personal use, be it hemp or marijuana, is not legal in Portugal.
The distinction between hemp and marijuana is crucial when it comes to the industrial cultivation of the plant. Marijuana has a higher THC content and only plants with less than 0.2% THC can be legally cultivated. And hemp fits this profile.
Companies that want to grow hemp in Portugal must first apply for a permit from the ministry of agriculture. They should also be ready for unannounced inspections throughout the year.
To help you understand our guide to CBD in Portugal completely, we also need to take a look at the laws surrounding CBD in Europe. The European Commission (EC) classifies CBD as a novel food (food that hadn’t been consumed in the EU before May 15th, 1997). CBD is legal in Europe as long as it meets the following criteria:
With the fast progression of the cannabis industry, experts estimate that by 2025, the EU's economy will significantly improve and by then the laws may change.
If you’re in Portugal, you can buy CBD products in person or online. Buying from reputable e-commerce stores like Full Circle Hemp is the more popular way in Portugal and across Europe. But even then you’ll need a physician’s prescription and authorisation to purchase CBD products with THC and import them into the country as medical cannabis.
If you want to avoid this hassle, you can choose a CBD product that’s free of THC. Online CBD shops offer a wide variety of CBD formulations you can choose from. You can get CBD in the shape of oils, pastes, capsules, gummies, vapes, balms, and even coffee and tea.
Although when it comes to purchasing CBD online, there are some factors you need to keep in mind to make sure you’re getting a safe and high-quality product.
The most important part of our guide to CBD in Portugal is knowing which supplier to buy from. The list of online European CBD shops is endless, but not all of them provide high-quality products. Buying from some of these suppliers can even be dangerous. So to choose the right company to buy from, look for these factors.
While buying CBD in Portugal is currently challenging, the future of this substance seems promising. With the growing market and the increasing demand, two companies in Portugal have teamed up with Canadian companies to provide the supply. The Portuguese company, Holigen, plans to cultivate over 500,000 kilograms of medicinal cannabis per year. The Gaia Pharma has also teamed up with the Canadian firm, Aurora Cannabis Inc. to produce CBD products. With this increase in investment and people’s interest in CBD, the future laws of the country may lower the constrictions. So this useful substance may become available to the public in the near future without the need for a prescription.
Our guide to CBD in Portugal would not be complete if we didn’t introduce you to a trusted brand to buy from. “You can’t always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside.”– Wayne Dyer
By now you’ve probably heard a good thing or two about CBD products. They come from the cannabis plant that offers numerous potential health benefits and new studies are confirming its medicinal properties with each passing day. But what gives cannabis its wide range of effects? The answer lies within the various chemicals that this plant possesses. There are over 500 identified chemical compounds and each contributes to an extent to the changes cannabis makes in the body. Some like terpenes and flavonoids are also found in other plants, but what makes cannabis unique is its collection of cannabinoids. These natural compounds are the main factors that interact with the body and create the effects. Since there isn’t a comprehensive cannabinoid chart in Ireland, we have prepared a list of major cannabinoids in Ireland’s CBD products to tell you a bit more about what they are and how they can help the body.
Cannabinoids are natural chemical compounds that are often unique to the cannabis plant (phytocannabinoids). They can also be found naturally in the body (endocannabinoids) or be made in the lab (synthetic cannabinoids). In the cannabinoid chart in Ireland, we’ll be taking a closer look at phytocannabinoids.
While two of the most famous ones that you might have heard of are THC and CBD, the number of these chemicals in cannabis is far beyond that. To date, more than a 100 of them have been identified. Some are present in lower concentrations than others, but each of them gives a specific characteristic to the plant that affects the body differently.
Since the 1980s when scientists learned about the different cannabinoid receptors in the body, a lot has been discovered about the way they interact with cannabis and how the plant creates the physiological and psychological effects.
Through numerous studies, scientists found the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) and the cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. These receptors are present throughout the body, including the nervous system and immune system. When the body’s endocannabinoids bind with these receptors, they can change their functions and regulate our health. It has been shown that ECS plays an important part in creating balance in the body and affecting different aspects of our health like responding to pain, inflammation, sleep, immunity, memory, and mood. So you can imagine that any disruption in this system or shortage of endocannabinoids can lead to problems. Fortunately, phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant have the potential to make up for this shortage and help bring balance back to the body. When these cannabinoids bind to the receptors, they cause them to release enzymes which will break down the cannabinoids and unleash their effects.
What makes these phytocannabinoids interesting is that each one creates a unique effect in the body. That’s why cannabis is considered a healer for so many conditions. For a better understanding of these compounds, let’s dive into the list of major cannabinoids in Ireland’s CBD products and their potential benefits.
“The brain is about a symphony, and CBD can bring the entire symphony into harmony”.
THC is the most abundant cannabinoid in the cannabis plant and the most popular one in the cannabinoid chart in Ireland. It’s also the most infamous for being psychoactive, binding to the body’s CB-1 receptors, and creating euphoric and relaxing effects.
THC has been studied more than the other cannabinoids for its promising therapeutic benefits. The results showed THC’s stronger pain management properties compared to other cannabinoids, its potential in treating symptoms of different conditions like epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease, and its efficiency against tumors.
Nevertheless, due to its powerful psychoactivity, some users might experience side effects like short-term memory loss, increased anxiety, and heart rate. However, these effects can be balanced by combining THC with other cannabinoids and components of cannabis.
CBD is the second most famous cannabinoid in the list of major cannabinoids in Ireland’s CBD products and has been making headlines in the health market for some years now. It offers the same benefits as THC, but without the disorienting effects. So it won’t get you high and it’s marketed for use in different age groups and even pets.
Studies highlight its potential as an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving agent that can be helpful for treating side effects of chemotherapy and help people quit opioid addiction. It has even been authorised by the FDA as an anti-seizure medication for epileptic patients. Plus, the World Health Organisation has announced that CBD is safe to use due to not being addictive or having major side effects.
THCA is the acidic form of THC in the live cannabis plant. After being exposed to heat, it’s converted to THC through decarboxylation. So if you vaporise the product, you’ll initiate this conversion. But unlike THC, THCA is non-psychoactive and doesn’t have euphoric effects.
Despite the important role it has in creating THC, THCA hasn’t been studied as extensively. But the few studies that have focused on this cannabinoid, have found promising results. A study in 2013 showed that THCA can reduce nausea and vomiting in rats, while another study found its anti-proliferative effects against cancerous cells. An international collaborative study highlighted THCA’s potential as a treatment for neurodegenerative diseases.
With all this potential, THCA has already made it to the market in the form of products like tinctures and capsules.
Another non-psychoactive compound in the cannabinoid chart in Ireland that you may not have heard of is CBG. This cannabinoid is present in trace amounts in most strains of cannabis and it’s found only at the first stages of the plant’s cycle. It reacts with the brain’s receptors the same way that THC does, but it actually works against the psychoactive effects and acts as a buffer to THC.
Studies on CBG show its potential against numerous conditions, one of them being glaucoma. It is shown that CBG can reduce intraocular eye pressure in glaucoma patients. Other areas that CBG could be helpful with are neurodegenerative diseases, fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and irritable bowel syndrome.
Although scientists are engineering plants to have higher concentrations of CBG, their extraction process can be more expensive compared to other cannabinoids.
Another non-psychoactive cannabinoid is CBC which can be more prevalent than CBD in some strains. CBC like most cannabinoids works best when combined with THC and CBD in the entourage effect.
A study in 2013 showed CBC’s positive effects on stem cells in mice’s nervous system. This finding can help scientists in the fight against Alzheimer's and dementia. Further studies support CBC’s anti-inflammatory effects which are enhanced when combined with THC.
CBGa, also known as the mother of all cannabinoids, is perhaps the most important non-intoxicating cannabinoid in the list of major cannabinoids in Ireland’s CBD products because all other cannabinoids like THCa, CBDa, CBCa, and CBG are created from it through different chemical reactions. But most studies are focused on its resulting cannabinoids and not CBGa itself. Although as the fascination around cannabis increases, CBGa is starting to pique scientists’ interest as well.
CBN is the first compound in the cannabinoid chart in Ireland that was discovered in the 1930s by a British chemist. This cannabinoid is a result of THC’s oxidization and more prevalent in aged and poorly-stored cannabis. So it’s present in trace amounts in fresh cannabis flowers and has mild psychoactive effects.
Researchers have found that CBN can act as a mild sedative and help people sleep. Its sedating effects can be enhanced when combined with THC. Based on a 2002 study, this combination can also significantly reduce pain. Other studies show its potential in decreasing intraocular eye pressure in glaucoma patients and anticonvulsive effects alongside THC and CBD. Another study suggested CBN’s effectiveness in delaying ALS in mice models. However, like most cannabinoids, CBN is also understudied and its effects need to be evaluated in human subjects.
THCV is an intoxicating cannabinoid like THC but it’s found in such low amounts that it can't create a high by itself. It’s mostly present in Sativa strains and some plants in Pakistan, India, and China contain a significant amount of this cannabinoid. The few carbon atom differences in THCV compared to THC create a shorter and more psychedelic effect that gives users a burst of energy.
Research shows that THCV can control blood sugar levels and be helpful for diabetic patients. Other potential benefits of THCV have prompted more scientists to research this cannabinoid further.
CBDa is the acidic and non-psychoactive precursor to CBD. It’s found in the raw cannabis plant and converted to CBD through decarboxylation.
It was found in 2017 that CBDa was stronger than CBD in inducing antidepressant effects in mice due to increased interaction with serotonin receptors. Another study shows CBDa’s similarity to common NSAIDs like Ibuprofen in reducing inflammation and pain. Other studies show its potential in fighting nausea and breast cancer.
The last cannabinoid in the list of major cannabinoids in Ireland’s CBD products is CBDV. This is another non-intoxicating cannabinoid with a similar structure to CBD.
Studies support CBDV’s anticonvulsant potential in stopping seizures in epileptic patients and GW Pharmaceuticals has developed a drug for epilepsy containing CBDV that is now in its second trial phase. Another study showed CBDV’s antiemetic effects in rats. Other health conditions that CBDV has shown promising results against are Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Rett Syndrome.
Although the list of major cannabinoids in Ireland’s CBD products includes the most important and well-known cannabinoids, we’ve barely scratched the surface. Some other noteworthy cannabinoids like CBGV, CBCa, CBCV, and Δ8-THC haven’t been studied enough and with many more cannabinoids being discovered with every new research, keeping up with them is almost impossible. But scientists are paying closer attention to each one due to the proven beneficial effects of other cannabinoids like THC and CBD. Apart from how each cannabinoid affects the body, there is a matter of how each one interacts with other cannabinoids. So there is a long way ahead to understanding these compounds and completing the cannabinoid chart in Ireland.
In the end, it’s safe to say that this plant offers incredible benefits and has the potential to ease our lives in numerous ways. If you want to try out these cannabinoids and see their effects for yourself, your go-to product is Ireland’s best full spectrum CBD oil that contains all the components of the cannabis plant. Keep in mind that the information provided here cannot replace a health professional’s opinion. So if you want to use CBD products for your specific condition, make sure to check in with your doctor first.

We’ve all had experienced anxiety at some point and we know of its effects and how it can lower the quality of our lives. But did you know that our dogs can experience it too? Whether from loud noises, separation, or PTSD, our furry friends can suffer from stress just like us. There are many products out there claiming to treat our pets’ anxiety, but not all of them are safe. If we really want to help them without introducing unnatural chemicals into their bodies, we have to turn to natural and organic solutions. And there is one product that has been making headlines as a natural remedy for anxiety. CBD oil. A lot of people have reported good results with it, but can you really use CBD oil for dogs with anxiety? That’s what Full Circle Hemp cover in this article. We’ll talk about the calming effects of CBD oil on dogs, its other benefits, and everything else you need to know to help your dog get the most benefits from CBD.
Extracted from the cannabis plant, CBD oil contains an array of natural chemicals including terpenes, flavonoids, and most importantly, cannabinoids, that can be beneficial for the body. Cannabinoids are specific to the cannabis plant and the two most famous ones are THC and CBD. THC is a euphoric cannabinoid responsible for the “high” people feel when they use marijuana. CBD on the other hand is non-intoxicating and has shown numerous health benefits in various studies.
While THC has its own benefits and complements the effects of CBD and other natural components of the plant in a phenomenon known as the entourage effect, too much of it can be toxic, especially for dogs. Symptoms of THC toxicity include vomiting and excessive panting. But there’s no need to worry, because all CBD oils in the market, especially CBD oils for dogs with anxiety, have a limited amount of THC that doesn’t pose a threat to their health. Other than that, CBD is generally safe with rare potential side effects such as drowsiness, lowered blood pressure, and dry mouth. CBD may also interact with other medications. So if you’re dogs are on prescription drugs, you should check in with your vet before introducing the product into their diet to witness the calming effects of CBD oil on your dogs.
You can always stay away from these side effects and minimise the risks by purchasing CBD oil from reputable brands that offer third-party lab-tested products. If you’re worried about the safety of the CBD oil for your anxious dog, you can opt for a CBD oil that is specifically made for pets.
Anxiety is not uncommon among dogs and it can be due to different reasons. Leaving them alone at home can lead to separation anxiety, especially if they’re not used to being alone by themselves. Adjusting to new places, new people and other pets can also be stressful for them. Fear of loud noises like thunderstorms or Fireworks is another common cause of distress. Rescue dogs with traumatic pasts can develop PTSD. These anxieties all get worse as they age and lead to aggression, depression, incessant barking, and other misbehaviours.
CBD oil can reduce these types of anxieties with its strong relaxing effects on the mind through interaction with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). ECS is a biological system composed of a network of receptors that exist in all mammals, including humans and dogs. It creates a set of endocannabinoid's and interacts with other cannabinoids through its receptors. Although it’s not yet fully understood, scientists believe that this interaction regulates some of the most important bodily functions like sleep, pain, appetite, and mood by stabilising the immune and nervous systems. Different cannabinoids in the CBD oil interact with CB1 and CB2 receptors in the ECS and improve dysfunctional systems and anxiety by lighting the effects of the stress hormone.
The calming effects of CBD oil on dogs are even stronger because dogs have more cannabinoid receptors in their bodies. A study on shelter dogs showed a reduction in stress-related aggressive behaviour towards humans after giving them CBD. So CBD oil for dogs with anxiety can manage their stress, help them calm down, and avoid the harsh side effects of chemical medications.
CBD oil is not only for dogs with anxiety. It can also help improve your dogs’ overall health and mobility. Although this area still needs a lot more research, some benefits of CBD oil for dogs have been documented in different studies. Let’s take a look at them.
Seeing your dogs in pain is hard for any pet owner. Their physical pain can also be a reason for their anxiety and lethargy. Instead of reaching for the usual NSAIDs like ibuprofen, you can use the all-natural CBD oil instead. The pain-relieving abilities of CBD have been well documented in humans and are being proven in canine studies. So you can count on CBD oil to successfully reduce your dogs’ pain.
According to the Veterinary Cancer Society, cancer affects 1 out of every 4 dogs. While CBD oil’s anti-cancer properties are not yet confirmed, its potential in highlighting cancer-related discomforts and reducing side effects of chemotherapy such as nausea and lost appetite are well known. So if your dogs are under treatment for cancer, you can ease some of their pain with CBD.
Osteoarthritis and joint pain are among the inflammatory conditions that affect 30-50% of dogs as they age. These conditions limit their mobility and playfulness. CBD oil can restore this mobility through its anti-inflammatory properties. Multiple studies have shown the effectiveness of CBD and hemp oils against inflammation, so you can use them safely for your dogs.
Just like us, our dogs are not safe from epileptic seizures. In fact, epilepsy affects 6% of all dogs and its worst for some breeds compared to others. Perhaps CBD’s most famous ability is its effectiveness in highlighting epileptic seizures. There is already a human medication based on CBD for epilepsy and studies show that CBD oil can reduce the frequency and severity of seizures in our canine friends as well.
Your dogs may have difficulty sleeping due to any number of reasons. Anything from anxiety and pain to nausea can keep them awake. The calming effects of CBD oil on dogs will not only highlight these conditions but will also increase their total sleep time so they can enjoy a more peaceful night.
One of the main differences in CBD oils for humans and dogs is the dosage. While there is more research to be done to determine the optimal dosage of CBD oil for dogs with anxiety, a good measure to choose the best dosage is their size. Since they are smaller than us, they need a lower dosage to experience the effects. The smaller the dog, the lower the CBD dosage. Another thing you need to pay attention to is the concentration of the CBD in the oil you’re giving them. The higher the CBD content, the stronger the oil and the calming effects of CBD oil on your dogs. And the last thing that helps you decide on the best dosage of CBD for your dogs is their reaction to it. If you use too small of a dose, it won’t be effective and you won’t notice a difference in their behaviour. If the dose of CBD you give them is too high, you’ll notice negative reactions like fatigue. Most brands provide a dosage guide on their CBD oils for dogs. You can start somewhere in the middle of that range, taking your dog’s size into account, and change it according to their response.
There are several ways you can give your dog CBD oil. The best and most common way of administration for inducing the calming effects of CBD oil on dogs is to give it to them directly via the dropper. You can fill it with your desired dose of CBD oil and squeeze it into their mouths. Within 20 minutes, you can see them calm down. You can even add CBD oil to their food or homemade treats. Replacing their normal treats with CBD-infused ones will make a big difference in your dogs’ quality of life.
The timing depends mostly on what you’re trying to achieve. If your dogs get anxious on car rides or during grooming, you can give it to them an hour before leaving. Before bedtime is also a good time to give them the CBD oil and help them relax for a restful night. If they have arthritis, you can give it to them in the morning. After a long day of playing in the park, a little CBD oil can calm their muscles and relieve joint pain. Another way you can use CBD oil for arthritis is by adding it to a balm or buying a pet balm already infused with CBD oil and rubbing it directly on the target area.
Unfortunately, there are many CBD companies out there that don’t care about your dogs’ safety and mislead you with false advertising on their labels. So to make sure you’re giving your beloved pets the best CBD oils that contain no harmful pesticides or impurities, look for reliable brands with third-party lab tested products and good customer reviews.
One such brand is Full Circle Hemp that is an award-winning company with a special line of CBD products for pets. Full Circle Hemp cares about its customers’ health and welfare and that’s why it only provides the highest quality CBD products for you and your dogs. So try it out today and see the calming effects of CBD oil on dogs for yourself. Share this article with your friends and let us know in the comments if you’ve ever given CBD oil to your dogs to calm them down.
Taking a look at the legality of CBD Oil in Northern Ireland & the UK.
CBD has been a trendy product in the health sector for some years now. Users praise it for its wondrous effects and influencers post pictures of themselves with a different bottle of CBD oil every day. Scientists are hard at work trying to uncover more of the mysteries around this compound, while consumers are completely baffled in this mayhem and are wondering…
Is CBD oil even legal where I live?
The laws surrounding CBD are different in every country. In some countries, CBD is entirely legal, while in others it can only be used for medicinal purposes or is completely illegal. It’s hard to keep up with the constantly changing rules, but that is what we are going to do in this article.
We are going to take a look at the legality of CBD oil specifically in Northern Ireland and the UK.
CBD oil’s popularity has grown significantly here. According to the Cannabis Trades Association UK (CTA), as of 2018, CBD had 250,000 consumers throughout the UK and 45% of them were aware of what CBD was and what it could do. The numbers have only increased since then.
So we are going to answer all your questions about the legality of CBD oil in Northern Ireland and the UK to erase any worries you might have and ease your mind for your next CBD purchase.
CBD or THC, which one is illegal?
CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are two of more than a 100 components of the Cannabis plant, called cannabinoids.
While THC is a psychoactive compound used for recreational purposes, CBD is non-psychoactive and under study for its properties. THC is the reason you get high when you smoke weed, and also the reason you become hungry and sleepy afterward. You can blame THC for short-term memory loss too. These factors have all contributed to THC being illegal in most countries.
CBD on the other hand, can counteract the effects of THC to some degree. It can reduce the amount of anxiety and memory loss caused by THC. Plus, scientists are doing more and more research on CBD and discovering its potential application in the health sector. As these studies show that CBD has more good to offer than bad, governments across the world are rethinking the laws around CBD. and making it legal for its potential benefits.
A brief history of the legality of CBD oil in Northern Ireland & the UK
It was in 1928, after the passing of the Dangerous Drugs Act, when cannabis was declared illegal in the UK for the first time. Since then, cannabis had an on and off relationship with the UK’s legal system. It was classified as a non-addictive substance under the Class C drugs in 2001.
Then in 2008, it was illegalized again and went under the Class B drugs alongside amphetamines and barbiturates with up to 5 years of prison sentence for carrying it.
Now, most cannabinoids like THC are in the list of controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act, and therefore illegal to buy and consume.
CBD, being a derivative of hemp which is just one of the species of the Cannabis plant (the other being marijuana) follows slightly different rules and is exempt from this law. This is because hemp has a higher content of CBD and lower amounts of THC compared to marijuana and the CBD products in the market are all made from hemp.
So yes…CBD is not a controlled substance and is therefore completely legal to purchase and use in Northern Ireland and the UK.
However, there are some strict criteria that CBD products must meet to be considered legal.
Criteria for legal CBD products
With the legalization of CBD and its growing popularity, the number of CBD companies is increasing overwhelmingly. And a lot of these companies are putting out low-quality products, some of which contain illegal amounts of THC or even some vegetable oil!
To protect consumers, the EU has determined a specific set of criteria that all CBD companies must meet to be able to sell legally. Even with Brexit and leaving the European Union, the UK is still in a transition period until the end of 2020. So while its regulations on CBD might change after this period, it still follows the same rules as the EU.
Let’s take a look at these criteria.
Only certain strains of hemp with less than 0.2% THC can be used
The strain of hemp used for extracting CBD should contain less than 0.2% THC. This amount of THC is safe and won’t get the consumers high.
Although the EU has approved more than 60 different strains of industrial hemp for this purpose, farmers in Northern Ireland and the UK still have a limited choice compared to other countries like the US that aren’t bound to these rules.
From this limited choice of strains, Futura 75, Ferimon, and Finola are three of the best ones to grow in the UK and have the highest CBD content.
THC must not be extractable from the oil
The final CBD oil product must be in a form, or in combination with other substances in a way that it won’t allow others to extract the THC from it easily. Believe it or not, some people try to do that, and that can have dangerous health and legal consequences.
The little amount of THC in CBD products in combination with this rule makes it almost impossible to separate the THC content from the oil.
Finally, the end product must contain no more than 1mg of any controlled substance.
The CBD product should not be advertised as a medicine
CBD oils are still at the research level and have not passed enough tests to be approved as medicine, so they should not be advertised as such. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) stated in October 2016 that CBD must obtain a license before it can be sold as a medicine in the UK.
Any companies marketing their CBD products as medicine or claiming medicinal properties will be in big trouble. Instead, they can sell their products as food and dietary supplements, following the guidelines of the Cannabis Trades Association (CTA).
Which types of CBD products are legal?
Like we said before, CBD is not a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act, so any type of product containing CBD is legal, as long as it meets the mentioned criteria. These CBD products are available throughout Northern Ireland and the UK and include:
It's that time of year when Easter is upon us and chocolate becomes the food stuff on everyones lips. Given we're all at home, possibly struggling with what to do, what better way to enjoy some Easter treats than making them yourself or with the kids. Chocolate and CBD (Cannabidiol) go together like peanut butter and jelly, or like bread and butter, or milk and cookies (you get the idea) so it's a fun, tasty and enjoyable way to get your daily dose. Plus if you happen to be able to get yourself some raw cacao (as opposed to already processed chocolate) then you'll also be getting the benefits of all the incredible compounds found in cacao. Don't get me wrong, ready made chocolate has loads of benefits too (especially if it's dark chocolate, The Full Circle Hemp Family reckon the darker the better!) but raw cacao is another level altogether with over 1000 active compounds that work beautifully with CBD. Here are some of the benefits that are in chocolate of a 65%+ cocoa content:
Basically we have an awesome super food loaded with nutritional goodies that have many benefits to our wellbeing both physically and emotionally (don't forget we're talking dark chocolate here not milk chocolate). Now that we've looked briefly at chocolate and cacao, what does adding CBD Oil to your chocolate do? How is this relationship synergistic?
Why don't we look at the one aspect we're most interested in and the one that can be the most noticeable. Our bodies naturally produce an endocannabinoid (endo meaning within) called Anandamide. Ananda means bliss in sanskrit and for good reason. However, there's a catch. It's weak, so to speak, and degrades very quickly. An enzyme called FAAH is responsible for metabolising anandamide and guess what? CBD does one very important thing when it come to FAAH...it inhibits it which leads to increased levels of anandamide in the body. And guess what? Cacao also contains small amounts of anandamide! So the combination of CBD and Chocolate can bring all that natural feel good of chocolate but with a boost!
Here's how we use CBD Oil in our chocolate:
(By the way if you don't have any raw cacao paste (cacao nibs pressed into a block is called paste or liquor) or cacao butter then see the links below or contact us directly. We have plenty of Balinese Cacao and it has a phenomenal flavour profile.)
A bit like fudge these raw CBD cacao bites are so good you'll have to stop yourself from munching them all in one sitting. It's literally a melt in your mouth experience. I've put this recipe first as it's just so incredibly tasty and really easy to make but you probably won't have all of the ingredients on hand so I suggest experimenting! You could substitute the cacao paste for the darkest chocolate you can find and substitute the cacao butter with coconut oil, but a little less of it, and substitute the raw CBD paste for CBD Oil. Better yet, wait until you have the cacao paste and cacao butter to get the best possible fudgy goodness! It's so worth it!
Here's what you'll need:
Place the cacao paste and cacao butter together in a bowl and heat gently over a pan of boiling water until melted. Add the syrup and salt and blend with a hand blender until nice and smooth. Add the essential oil and mix well.
At this point you can add your CBD paste or oil but we like to pour the mixture into some molds and then add in a dose of CBD paste and mix it in well. This way you know exactly how much CBD is going into each finished chocolate.
All that's left is to stick it in the freezer for an hour and then enjoy! So simple, so quick and crazy delicious.
There are so many ways you can play around with this simple recipe and a wealth of diferent flavours to add. Adding other super foods just adds to that nutrient richness.
How about adding some chopped up goji berries, or some chopped nuts? For total decandence add a drop or two of rose oil. Chilli works really well and adds to the stimulation of endorphins. Cinnamon is a classic and cardamon is a favorite here.
Oh my goodness, I'm excited for you! These are another delicious recipe and with easy to source ingredients I guarantee you'll be making these over and over especially as there is no actual cooking involved!. Makes about 20 standard brownies although you can easily halve the recipe. Adjust the CBD content as needed, the paste works very well here too. Here's what you'll need:
Melt your coconut oil and add to a blender with the cacao powder, roughly ground almonds, half the walnuts, the chopped dates, sweetener of choice and the salt. Blend until it becomes a thick brown mixture. You may have to help it along by pushing the mixture that gets stuck on the sides into the centre.
Spoon the brownie mix into a bowl and mix in the syrup and water until it's sticky and gooey (see photo above). Now's the time to add your CBD Oil and mix well. Spoon this yummy mixture into a cake mold (you can grease it or line it with baking paper if it's not non stick) and smooth the top with the back of the spoon.
Pop it in the freezer for 20-30mins so that it's firm, remove and eat to your hearts content.
If you're feeling adventurous and have some cacao butter then this icing is easy to make. Add it when the brownies come out of the freezer then pop back in the freezer for 10-15mins to set.
Here's what you'll need:
Melt the cacao butter in a bowl over a pan of boiling water. Next, blitz the cashews in a blender until they become like a flour. Add the melted cacao butter, sweetener and fruit and blend until smooth. Spoon onto the brownies and place back in the freezer. Simple!
There are so many ways to enjoy CBD and Chocolate, all it takes is some key ingredients, a little imagination and a sense of play. Don't be afraid to experiment! You can make loads with just some cacao powder, coconut oil and CBD. What kind of flavours do you like? Nuts work well, nut butters are an excellent ingredient to add cacao to; berries never fail; other super foods like lucama, maca, goji berries, matcha all work great with chocolate and CBD. Have fun and bliss out!
These are our top choices for adding to chocolate or cacao

Prema Gardner
A passionate cook, alchemist and hemp advocate. Loves working with mother natures gifts.
CBD Skincare:
Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Prema and I’m the alchemist here at Full Circle Hemp and can normally be found behind the scenes formulating this and that. There are two passions that inspire and motivate me…Herbs and Oils and I’ll tell you why.
Mother Nature gifted us with everything we could possibly need of which plants just leave me open mouthed in awe. Plants feed us, clothe us, shelter us, heal us, and provide incredible beauty. Just allow yourself for one moment to fully take in what incredible grace this is, the sheer magnitude of their offering. My love is formulating with this awe and wonder and infinite gratitude. An oil is generally extracted from a seed or fruit that has spent time simply absorbing the energy of the sun, the soil, the water and the air. It has drawn on all the elements and then undergoes this alchemical process to produce a plethora of compounds that are so varied it beggars belief! When you really start to let it all sink it how can you not be awed?!
The formulation journey is part knowledge, part intuition, experience and draws on all the senses. Herbs are carefully chosen for their skin benefiting qualities and wherever possible are wild harvested and lovingly and slowly infused in seed oils here in County Wicklow. The oils themselves are not just fillers but are also carefully chosen for their myriad of qualities. For example a butter (essentially an oil that is so saturated it is solid or semi solid) may not just be chosen for it’s skin softening qualities but because it simply rocks on the anti-inflammatory scale.
That butter may be complimented by an anti-inflammatory herb that has just the right profile to bring the formula into well-roundedness. I wish I could go into more detail here but there is a little thing called compliance that makes anything that is or sounds like a claim to be…well, not ok. Suffice to say there are no fillers in our skincare. Every ingredient is there for a very good reason and there is always the endeavour to source sustainably and responsibly, with buying direct from producers wherever possible or wild harvesting here in Ireland.
I’m a firm believer in making with intention and heart…I know it’s a bit woo woo but that’s what differentiates a mass produced product from a lovingly crafted, small batch creation.
CBD Skincare in Ireland
Athletes put a great deal of pressure on their bodies when they train for competitions. To recover from intense workouts, they usually turn to painkillers. While these are effective, they’re often more dangerous than beneficial. So athletes are always looking for alternative solutions. One of these solutions is the all-natural CBD oil. It has gained a lot of attention with promises of pain relief and reduced inflammation. Many have added it to their routines and others are curious to learn more about it. But is it really effective? Can athletes take CBD oil to boost athletic performance? Stay with us as we answer all these questions in this article. We’ll take a look at the role of CBD oil in sports and its potential benefits. Plus, we’ll talk about the legality of CBD oil for athletes in Ireland who are eager to try this product.
All Athletes experience sports-related injuries at some point in their careers. To deal with the pain, they turn to over-the-counter NSAIDs. Although these are very effective, they carry multiple risks ranging from stroke and heart attack to renal failure.
There is also an opioid epidemic going on among athletes. Opioid painkillers create a euphoric feeling in the user and are extremely addictive, sometimes even fatal. In 2019 alone, more than 50,000 people overdosed from opioids. Their other health risks include:
Some athletes also take stimulants to improve their performance. The side effects of which are:
So it’s no wonder that athletes are searching for a better solution. And CBD oil might just be it.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring phytocannabinoid in the cannabis plant. Another famous cannabinoid is THC which is a psychoactive compound. CBD is non-psychoactive, which means it won’t get you high.
Although research on CBD is limited, current studies show its potential in treating numerous conditions affecting athletes. They also suggest that CBD can treat opioid addiction without being addictive itself!
According to the World Health Organisation, CBD is generally safe, with few side effects like fatigue and diarrhoea in some cases.
But for most people, CBD is completely safe and potentially beneficial. These benefits have attracted many professional athletes from around the world. But does CBD actually help athletes?
To understand the benefits of CBD oil for athletes, we first have to look at how CBD works.
We already have cannabinoids in our bodies. They interact with the newly found endocannabinoid system (ECS) that modulates some of our important functions and maintains homeostasis. Endocannabinoids do this by binding to CB1 and CB2 receptors and preventing certain neurotransmitters from being produced. Scientists believe that CBD may help us by binding to these receptors and enhancing their activities.
With athletes' bodies being under constant stress, ECS can get overwhelmed and CBD might be able to help bring back balance.
Based on current findings, here are some of the potential benefits of CBD oil in sports.
Athletes experience pain from intense workout sessions. One of CBD’s most promising potentials is its ability to alleviate pain. Research shows that this cannabinoid can impact inhibitory pathways that cause pain. Clinical trials with more than 1,000 people also showed the efficiency of cannabinoids in managing chronic pain.
So CBD oil for athletes in Ireland can be a healthier alternative to NSAIDs and opioids for pain management.
Inflammation is good up to a point and can help stimulate training adaptations. After that, it can be painful, prevent recovery, and affect athletic performance.
According to a study, cannabinoids can reduce inflammation by inducing apoptosis and limiting cytokine production. In other words, they can lower the inflammatory responses after a hard workout so athletes can recover faster.
The stress of competitions, hard workouts, and injuries can create anxiety in athletes and keep them from performing at their best.
Numerous studies show CBD’s efficiency in reducing anxiety behaviours related to different disorders. From general anxiety to social anxiety and post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), CBD has been able to impact them all positively. It has even successfully helped people overcome their fear of public speaking!
So it might just be able to help athletes feel calmer.
A good night’s sleep gives athletes the chance to recover and perform better. Those who suffer from insomnia don’t get this chance.
Multiple studies show that CBD has the potential to induce sleep and help users have a more restful night. It can also lead to better sleep by lowering stress hormones and anxiety.
Athletes experience muscle soreness after a long training session. This can make the simplest movements difficult and slow down recovery.
Since CBD can affect the nervous system, it may be able to decrease tension. Research shows that it can help muscle relaxation by interacting with GABA-A receptors in the body.
Another potential of CBD oil for athletes’ recovery lies in its ability to control cortisol levels. Cortisol is responsible for breaking down lean muscle tissue and studies show that CBD can keep its levels in check.
These are just some of CBD oil’s potential benefits for athletes. Others that are being studied include CBD’s role in improving focus, treating cardiovascular conditions, reducing nausea, and controlling appetite.
Although more research is needed to confirm these benefits, there is not much harm in trying CBD and finding out for yourself. It may be just what you need. But is it even legal for athletes to use CBD oil in sports?
If you're wondering about the legality of CBD oil for athletes in Ireland, you should know that the World Anti-Doping Agency removed this cannabinoid from its list of prohibited substances in 2018. So athletes can legally use CBD.
Not THC though. The psychoactive compound of cannabis is still prohibited and only tolerated up to a 150 ng/ml urinary threshold. This is to detect THC used near events and not its casual consumption or the minimum concentrations found in full spectrum CBD oils.
No, CBD doesn't show up on drug tests. These tests look for THC and its metabolites. So using CBD oil, even the full spectrum one with up to 0.2% THC shouldn't cause you to test positive. That is if you buy from a trusted brand like Full Circle Hemp that lists all its ingredients on the label. If you want to be completely safe, you can even opt for a Broad Spectrum CBD oil with zero THC.
Professional athletes in different sports experience the significant pain of intense training and the gruelling stress of competition.
Luckily, many of them are discovering the potential of CBD oil in dealing with these situations.
Let's take a better look at the positive role of CBD oil in sports.
MMA fighters use different martial arts techniques that increase the risk of injury. So CBD oil can prove to be useful. Fighters use it for faster muscle recovery, pain management, and better sleep.
Nate Diaz was one of the first ones who popularised CBD in MMA when he pulled out a CBD vape during an interview after his match against Conor McGregor. He claimed it helped him in so many ways and even to this day, he uses it constantly.
Bass Rutten is another fighter that uses CBD. He struggled with opioid addiction after an injury, but CBD helped him get back on track. He is now a strong advocate of CBD products. Other MMA fighters who endorse CBD oil include Joe Schilling, Leslie Smith, and Roman Mironenko.
Rugby is a physically demanding sport that puts a lot of pressure on the athlete's body. Players are no strangers to strong painkillers with serious side effects and they’re searching for better alternatives.
Enter CBD.
A new study shows that 80% of rugby players use CBD to fight intense pain and inflammation. 67% said that they experienced the bene>its of CBD.
Dominic Day and George Kruis are two of the rugby players who endorse CBD oil for better athletic performance. Dominic claims that after 15 years of trying different treatments, he came across CBD and has been using it ever since.
While golf might not seem as demanding as other sports, it definitely takes a toll on the players, causing extreme back and joint pain.
Golfers have openly embraced CBD since its legalisation in 2018. They praise it for its pain management and anti-anxiety effects and claim that it has helped them play more with a calmer mind.
Scott McCarron, PGA Tour Champions player, claims that CBD helps him focus and perform at his best. Billy Horschel is another golfer who after a few losses had four top-eight finishes with the help of CBD. Other known golfers who swear by CBD include Phil Mickelson and Lucas Glover.
Boxing takes a toll on the athlete’s mind and body. Just a few blows are enough to cause immense pain and force the boxers to take some time off.
But the game has changed since pro boxers have discovered CBD. CBD’s potential in reducing traumatic brain injuries is especially promising because boxers are constantly at risk of brain damage.
Shannon Briggs, a heavyweight boxer with 25 years of experience under his belt, struggled to keep his body healthy until he came across CBD. He claims that CBD has changed his life. 20-year-old Teo>imo Lopez is another boxer who has been using CBD for a couple of years for pain management. Other advocates of CBD include Denver Cuello, Ferdinand Kerobyan, and Jessie Magdaleno.
Gary Cully an Irish professional boxer who has held the Irish lightweight title since February 2020 and also European title. Full Circle Hemp is proud to sponsor Gary, an incredibly talented boxer & total gentleman who is destined for great things.
Here's a word from Gary and how he uses Full Circle Hemp CBD:
“I like to use Full Circle Hemp CBD after a hard day in the gym. It allows me to wind down and helps me to relax, I also find it hugely beneficial if I’m ever feeling anxious, and also notice benefits with my physical recovery. My sleep has also improved massively since I’ve started using CBD, I used to struggle to get to sleep, now I get around 10 hours every night!”
Full spectrum CBD oil used by athletes is the best option because it contains all the beneficial components of the plant. Scientists believe that the combination of different cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids in this product enhances the properties through the entourage effect.
Broad spectrum CBD oil also has all the components, except for THC. These are ideal products for athletes who want to benefit from CBD but avoid THC.
Ultimately, the best CBD oil for athletes is the full spectrum oil and they should opt for that if possible because it has the highest potential to help them.
Many athletes have been hurt and lost their careers due to opioid addictions. CBD oil can be an excellent alternative without the dangerous side effects. There are still a lot of unknowns about CBD oil in sports, but current studies point to its safety and benefits.
So if you want to see how it can help you, go ahead and give it a try after consulting your doctor. Start with small doses since the optimal CBD oil dosage for athletes is not known.

The CBD market has grown so much in the past few years as more people have integrated different CBD-infused products into their lives. Many are trying CBD as a sleep aid to see if it can help them have a more restful night and a lot of them have gotten good results. Plus, there is CBD’s connection to marijuana which causes sleepiness in its users.
So it’s no surprise if you’re wondering “will CBD oil make me sleepy?” In this article, Full Circle Hemp takes a more in-depth look into CBD oil’s sleep-inducing effects and answer all your questions. Does CBD make you tired? Does CBD actually help you sleep? To better understand the connection between CBD and sleep, we’re going to start with an introduction to CBD and how it affects your mind and body.
CBD is one of at least 100 natural components of the hemp plant known as cannabinoids. Hemp is the sister plant to marijuana and both belong to the Cannabis sativa family. While having similarities, they’re also quite different. Marijuana is higher in another cannabinoid known as THC which is responsible for the euphoric high people feel after smoking it. Hemp, on the other hand, has a higher concentration of CBD which is not intoxicating like THC. In fact, CBD is being studied for its potential medicinal beneNits. Since legal CBD oil is extracted from the flowers, leaves, and stems of industrial hemp plants, it contains a lower amount of THC. So it’s safe for its users.
The exact processes through which CBD affects the body are still not completely understood, but scientists believe that it has something to do with the endocannabinoid system or ECS. Associated with the immune and nervous
systems through a series of receptors, research shows that ECS might have a role in regulating some of our important biological functions like our levels of anxiety, pain, stress, sleep, fatigue, and wakefulness. And here is where the important question rises “Will CBD oil make me sleepy?” Let’s look into that.
The answer to “will CBD oil make me sleepy?” is a bit more complicated than just a yes or no. There are a few points you need to keep in mind in regards to CBD making you feel tired. One is that each body reacts to CBD oil differently. So depending on your weight, lifestyle, genetics, and the type and dosage of the CBD oil you’re using, you might feel a stronger effect than others. And although the medical community has announced CBD as a safe component with no major side effects, it can still have minor side effects in some users. And drowsiness is the most common one.
Another thing is that you might be misinterpreting the calming effects of CBD for drowsiness. CBD’s potential in reducing anxiety and stress will leave you feeling relaxed and if the stresses of everyday life don’t allow you to experience this feeling too often, you might mistake it with sleepiness. Plus, as can be seen with marijuana with its high amounts of THC, sleepiness from a CBD oil can also be the result of a higher concentration of THC. But if you purchase the oil from a reliable brand that follows the legal guidelines for the amount of THC they can include in their products, you will not feel tired afterward. You might even feel more alert.
A lot of people turn to CBD oil to become more alert and focused. Studies show that low to medium doses of CBD are great for this purpose. Some CBD companies even add a bit of caffeine to their products to increase this effect. The exact mechanisms through which CBD creates this effect are not completely known, but increasing the levels of serotonin seems to be one of them. By enhancing the activity of serotonin receptors in the body, CBD helps produce more serotonin and improves focus.
It also seems like CBD can adjust to your body’s needs and natural rhythms. Making you more alert during the day and more relaxed during the night.
Getting enough quality sleep is one of the most important things to keep your mind and body healthy, but according to the sleep foundation, 30% of people struggle with this. They have to turn to sleeping pills for disorders like insomnia and these pills can have significant side effects. CBD is showing potential as a safe and natural replacement for these harmful medications. While research about the effects of CBD oil on sleep is still ongoing, the published studies all point toward the efficiency of CBD as a sleep aid.
As was shown by the University of Pennsylvania, low doses of CBD can have stimulating effects while higher doses can provide better quality sleep, making you less tired during the day. Although these studies were not mainly focused on the beneNits of CBD for sleep and the exact mechanisms in the body are not known, scientists believe that CBD can regulate the sleep-wake cycle by fighting the underlying reasons of sleep disorders or by directly interacting with the receptors.
Pain and anxiety are the hidden causes of insomnia in many people and CBD’s potential in combating these conditions is well proven by different studies. Recent findings suggest that CBD can manage the symptoms of anxiety and be helpful for people losing sleep due to stress. It has even been a successful stress reliever in people with PTSD. It also shows potential in reducing inflammation and chronic pain in many studies.
But what if pain and anxiety aren’t the cause of your sleep disorder? Well, new studies are focusing on the direct effect that CBD has on the receptors in the ECS. Research in 2019 showed that cannabinoids like CBD and THC helped subjects fall asleep faster and improved the quality of their sleep by reducing disturbances.
Despite concrete evidence, all findings point to CBD’s potential as a sleep aid. So if you’re suffering from a sleeping disorder, you can give it a try and take CBD oil several hours before bedtime to see if it can help you enjoy a peaceful night. But which type of CBD oil is best for this purpose?
While you might prefer broad spectrum CBD oils or CBD isolates, when it comes to using CBD as a sleep aid, you should consider full spectrum CBD oils. These oils contain all the beneficial compounds that hemp has to offer. From cannabinoids to different terpenes, everything in the full spectrum oil contributes to the product’s overall effect through the entourage effect and maximises the impact.
Apart from CBD and THC, full spectrum CBD oil has other cannabinoids that contribute to the relaxing effects of the product. CBN is one of those cannabinoids with mild sedative and pain-relieving effects that are enhanced when combined with THC. CBDa is another cannabinoid and the precursor to CBD with anti-inflammatory properties.
Studies show that CBDa has the potential to improve sleep by interacting with the body’s serotonin receptors. Plus, CBDa has the advantage of being much more bioavailable and 100 times stronger than CBD. Other cannabinoids of note in the full spectrum CBD oil include CBG, CBC, CBDV, and THCA, all of which play a part in the product’s final effect.
Terpenes are organic compounds that give cannabis its aroma. They also possess sedating effects that can work with cannabinoids and help you sleep better. More than 100 terpenes have been found in cannabis, with some having more prominent relaxing effects.
β-Caryophyllene is one of those terpenes that has a spicy scent and can also be found in cinnamon, clove, and black pepper. This is the only terpene that binds directly to the cannabinoid receptors.
β-Caryophyllene has soothing properties that can alleviate pain and anxiety, granting you a good night’s rest. β-Myrcene is the most abundant terpene in cannabis with an earthy aroma that can also be found in mango, thyme, and lemongrass. According to a study on mice, β-myrcene increases the duration and quality of sleep.
Pinene is another notable terpene with a woody scent similar to the aroma of a pine forest and can be found in rosemary, orange peel, and parsley. This terpene comes in the form of α-Pinene and β-Pinene. β-Pinene has pain relieving and anti-anxiety properties while α-Pinene has anxiolytic beneNits with studies suggesting that it can increase the level of non-REM sleep. These components along with other terpenes like terpinolene, linalool, and nerolidol coupled with various cannabinoids in the full spectrum CBD oil make for a luxurious night of sleep.
“So will CBD oil make me sleepy?”
CBD oil’s relaxing effects shouldn’t necessarily make you sleepy. Eventually, it can all come down to the quality of the product you’re using. If your current CBD oil is making you tired, try a different one from a more reputable company. Buying your CBD oil from an award-winning CBD brand like Full Circle Hemp can make all the difference in your experience.

CBD is very much in the headlines these days with many claims of its medicinal qualities. Also known as cannabidiol, it is the non-psychoactive compound in hemp/cannabis that’s received a tremendous amount of positive news world wide.
The questions most people ask are: How does it work? Is it safe? Does it make you high? And is it legal?
To understand CBD in Ireland we must first understand the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is present in all humans and vertebrate animals and even some invertebrate animals too. The work of Israeli chemist Dr Ralph Mechoulam has been instrumental is the discovery of the endocannabidiol system. His isolation of THC was the first stepping stone in isolating cannaboids and was research that lead to the finding two cannabinoid receptors in the body. This groundbreaking work found out that not only do we have these receptor sites that receive cannabinoids but that our bodies endocannabinoid system remarkably produces its own cannabinoids. This ability of the endocannabinoid system brings the body into homeostasis.
The (ECS) consists of two receptors (CB1 and CB2), several endogenous ligands (a protein that attaches to a receptor) including anandamide and 2AG, and over a dozen ligand-metabolising enzymes. Interestingly though the name anandamide comes from the Sanskrit word ananda, which means bliss. So you could say anandamide means bliss molecule.
CB1 receptors are located throughout the brain and central nervous system, as well as in the kidneys, liver, lungs, digestive tract, and even the eyes.
CB2 receptors are primarily found in white blood cells, the peripheral organs, in particular tissues associated with the immune system including the tonsils, thymus, spleen, gastrointestinal system and bone marrow.
The ECS plays very important role in regulating our physiological functions many of which relate to stress-recovery systems. Amongst other functions the endocannabinoid system is involved in modulating the immune and inflammatory responses and regulates appetite, anxiety, sleep, mood control, reproduction & fertility, pleasure & reward, pain, memory and temperature regulation. It also influences the cardiovascular and respiratory systems by controlling heart rate, blood pressure, and bronchial functions. Finally, yet importantly, endocannabinoids are known to exert important anti-proliferative actions in tumor cells.
When our ECS becomes out of balance (no longer in homeostasis) all kinds of conditions can arise such as increased risk of heart disease, auto immune disorders, obesity and diabetes, crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome. Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency is the term used when the body is no longer producing its own endocannabinoids or ceases self regulating which leaves one much more susceptible to a wide variety of illnesses and disease.
The good news is that there are ways of treating Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency. Firstly one needs to look at diet as studies have shown that the increased omega-3 levels from fish oil consumption causes significant changes and synergy within the endocannabinoid system. Another major cause of deficiency is stress, so finding ways to de-stress such as walks in nature, creating quality time with family and friends, exercising, meditation and yoga will have a beneficial impact.
The most effective and direct way to bringing the endocannabinoid system back into homeostasis is by supplementing your diet with plant based CBD (cannabinoids). It increases the amount of endocannabinoids in your system and stops the enzyme FAAH from breaking down all of the anandamide thereby making more of it available for use by your cells. CBD Oils in Ireland today has to be produced using hemp extracted and to be within EU regulation of below 0.2% THC.
CBD Oils are currently legal in Ireland and across most of Europe and has been put forward within The Medicinal Cannabis Bill in Ireland. It looks as if CBD will be regulated in the future as a medicinal supplement by HPRA (Health Products Regulatory Authority), and this something we very much welcome here at Full Circle Hemp.
CBD IN IRELAND
Exercise and the Endocannabinoid System
The Basics:
First of all let’s take a simple look at the endocannabinoid system and what effects it has on the body. The system is a collection of cell receptors (CB1 and CB2) and their corresponding molecules. Every time a molecule locks into a cell receptor it sends it a message giving the cell a direction to go in, which is always with the aim of bringing the body into balance or homeostasis. These receptors are found throughout the body and it’s the diversity of the receptor locations that point to the wide range of bodily functions and activations.
Activating the Endocannabinoid System:
Let’s go a little deeper into current research into exercise and the endocannabinoid system.
We have all heard of or know of the experience of a ‘runner’s high’ and new research is showing that this may be accounted for by the significant activation of the endocannabinoid system during exercise rather than the release of endorphins as previously thought. Exercise of moderate intensity dramatically increases the concentration of anandamide in the blood1 and it’s this increase which shows a significant activation of the endocannabonoid system. Anandamide is an endocannabinoid that is a fatty acid neurotransmitter who’s name is derived from the Sanskrit ‘Ananda’ which means bliss or joy. It’s produced by the body but (and this is key) it is broken down by the enzyme FAAH (fatty acid amide hydrolase). Those of us that produce less FAAH tend to be happier than those that produce more as it allows more anandamide to be present in the body (and therefore produce more of a feeling of wellbeing for example). Interestingly CBD is an FAAH inhibitor.
It doesn't stop there! The cannabinoid receptors themselves are found, amongst other areas, in muscle, skin, endothelial cells and the lungs. We see this with anandamide acting as a vasodilator and producing hypotension through CB1 receptors in muscle tissue and this may as a result facilitate blood flow during exercise. The increase in anandamide in the blood that we spoke of earlier is also likely to increase or activate the analgesic systems in the brain and by acting through the CB1 receptors in the skin and muscle. Amazingly anandamide also acts as a bronchodilator which suggests that another possible role for the endocannabinoid system could be to facilitate breathing during exercise. Supplementing with CBD can support and sustain this activation prior to, during and post exercise.
Exercise and Inflammation:
Any form of exercising (particularly vigorous) causes inflammation. It’s the body’s way of triggering the body’s repair process and is a completely natural occurrence. The inflammation itself is triggered by microscopic damage to the muscles and tissues, it’s what allows the muscles and tissues to grow back stronger and fitter. However, too much inflammation, (caused through injury, sprains and strains, more vigorous workouts etc) can contribute to excessive muscle damage, poor workout results and longer recovery times. Professional athletes turn to anti-inflammatory measures to aid in their recovery such as using ice baths and pharmaceutical anti-inflammatories.It is interesting to note that CBD was at one time banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency but the ban was lifted in 2017 and has since been accepted for use by professional athletes. It is even been offered in some yoga studios!
In Summary:
The endocannabinoid system works to bring the body into homeostasis. The key here is that endocannabinoids are lipids that are very quickly eliminated so that supplementing with CBD (which is an FAAH inhibitor so will delay this elimination) pre, post and during exercise can boost and aid in the previously mentioned effects.
We hope you enjoyed this brief look into the endocannabinoid system and exercise. Look out for future articles looking more closely at each of the points covered in the article, and even aspects we didn’t go into here.
are a mixture of organic aromatic molecules forming a compound that is unique to every plant They are responsible for most of the smells and flavours of herbs and spices that we add to our food everyday. Terpenes are produced by a variety of plants, from conifers to lavenders and citruses.
You may have heard of terpenes and terpenoids, there is a difference between them. Terpenes are hydrocarbons meaning that the compounds only contain hydrogen and carbon. Terpenoids have other molecules added to them for different functions. Terpenoids are also sometimes referred to isoprenoids.
Terpenes and terpenoids are the main ingredients of the essential oils that many medicinal plants and flowers produce. Essential oils can be used in many different ways, as fragrances and perfumes, and in some alternative medicines such as aromatherapy and holistic healing. Terpenes are responsible for the lovely mood lifting aroma of pine we all love while we are out walking on a hot summer day. That smell is actually the alpha and beta-pinene evaporating from the pine resin.
Hemp and Cannabis are also full of Terpenes and are responsible for the taste and fragrance, common terpene’s in hemp is linalool, Myrcene and Caryophyllene
Linalool
Has often been used in healing and aromatherapy as a sleep aid, to relieve stress and relax. Recognized by its sour, citrusy aroma, limonene is a terpene also found in hemp. Limonene is also added to skincare products and creams to help active ingredients to penetrate the skin. Effects of limonene include improved mood and a sense of well-being.
Myrcene
Or β-myrcene is a terpene that occurs often in highly fragrant plants and herbs such as hops, bay laurel leaves, thyme, lemongrass, and basil. It
Another place you’ll find myrcene is in mangoes. Anecdotal evidence suggests that eating a ripe mango prior to consuming Hemp allows cannabinoids to more easily bridge the blood-brain barrier.
Caryophyllene
Is the primary terpene that contributes to the spiciness of black pepper and also a major terpene in cloves, rosemary, basil, and hemp/cannabis. It comes in two main forms, beta caryophyllene, also commonly seen as β-Caryophyllene or abbreviated to BCP. Since cannabinoids and terpenes are related it is no surprise that terpenes would trigger the body’s endo-cannabinoid receptors. In 2008 caryophyllene was first identified as a cannabinoid, and found to have numerous benefits.
Previously considered a minor cannabinoid in terms of the overall cannabinoid profile, large amounts of CBDa have recently been shown to exist in certain ruderalis strains, as well as hybrids such as Cannatonic C-6 and ACDC. The levels of CBDa found in these strains and hybrids, in fact, are potentially higher than the levels of THCa. Decarboxylated when heated, CBDa becomes CBD in the same way that THCa becomes THC, and is not psychoactive. Research has shown that CBDa demonstrates anti-emetic (lessens vomit/nausea) and anti-proliferative (limits cancer cell growth) effects – in other words, an ideal choice to combat the effects of cancer. In addition, CBDa is also an anti-inflammatory (lessens inflammation) that possesses anti-bacterial properties.
]]>POTENTIAL THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS
• Antibacterial – Inhibits the growth of bacteria.
• Anti-Emetic – Relieves vomiting and nausea.
• Anti-inflammatory – Works to systematically reduce inflammation.
• Anti-Proliferative – Helps to limit the growth of cancer cells.
CURRENT RESEARCH
The anti-bacterial properties of CBDa were studied by Leizer et al in a report released in 2000, where they discussed the idea that greater levels of CBDa in a plant indicates greater antimicrobial potency in the CBD that results.
Reinforcing the results of a 2011 report that discussed the function of CBDa as an anti-emetic, a 2013 study released by Bolognini et al indicates that CBDa inhibits vomiting and nausea through the process of inciting 5-HT1A activity. This is potentially a very useful medicinal use for CBDa, and hopefully more research will be conducted in order to explore possible uses.
Two separate studies, released in 2013 and 2014 respectively, conducted by the same researchers found that CBDa effectively treats both anticipatory nausea as well as acute nausea in chemotherapy patients.
In a 2012 government-funded study, Takeda et al found that CBDa shared the anti-proliferative effects found in multiple other cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD. The study, which found that CBDa could limit the spread of human breast cancer cells, also reported the potential of this particular cannabinoid to be effective even with more aggressive forms of cancer. This is the first time that a component of a cannabis plant has been recognized to possess this kind of value against the spread of aggressive cancer cells.
